As some congregations have scrambled to make the Christmas season feel less socially distanced, many have pondered ways the church should respond to the unfathomable numbers of new cases and deaths coming out of the global coronavirus pandemic.

One way some see that work unfolding is in supporting science and helping others to do so as well. This month, Covalence highlights the stories of the past year, looking at the faith-filled responses within the church to dealing with the pandemic.

We also recognize that as many seek comfort in these trying times and may feel isolated — there have been unprecedented efforts to keep the church open online with the massive use of technology to keep communities connected.

And while we rejoice in the Wi-Fi and more importantly as the vaccine roll-out begins, many are looking for ways that people of faith can promote a belief not only in what scientists have discovered to date, but in the continued work of researchers and medical professionals who have been working tirelessly to help save lives for all these months.

Turning the calendar page to 2021, many of the same issues of science denial will undoubtedly take center stage. We will do our best to bring the discussions and stories to you of leaders fostering faith and science interactions seeking to create lasting change.

Be well and read on!
